Artist's Description
Leaving Calgary early September this year, I had no idea how long I might be able to cycle before the winter set in. I must admit I was neither informed nor well prepared. It snowed heavily in the Canadian Rockies on the fourth day of my trip after which it became way too cold to camp outside so I chose to stay at the wilderness hostels dotted between Banff and Jasper. The hostels not only kept me warm but also gave me the opportunity to hang out with fellow travellers. When it was knee-deep snow outside I would be sitting in the sauna together with new friends and exchanging stories with them. We would sweat profusely and rush outside where we would roll ourselves in the fresh snow and then hurry back in.
The ride between Banff and Jasper was a true highlight from the whole trip. Towering pristine mountains overlooked the road from both sides, for hundreds of kilometres, making the Icefields Parkway drive “the Kohinoor of North America”. The turquoise lakes, glaciers, cry...
